Aluminum (Al) is a lightweight silvery-white metal naturally found in the earth’s crust and the most widely used nonferrous metal. Aluminum has the advantage of being lightweight and resistant to corrosion and is one of the most important and widely used non-ferrous metal materials in various industrial, commercial, and domestic applications around the world. Production and consumption of aluminum around the world also reflect economic performance. Growth in aluminum production is mainly driven by rapid development in various end-user industries, including automotive, aerospace and defense, building and construction, electrical and electronics, packaging, industrial, and others.

Aluminum is preferred for wiring power grids due to its use in overhead power transmission lines and local power distribution lines since it provides a better conductivity to weight ratio compared to copper and also is one of the most common materials used in electrical applications. With its high malleability, high strength-to-weight ratio, along with versatility, aluminum is a valuable material for high-rise buildings and skyscrapers. It is also an ideal material due to its design flexibility, durability, and contributions to energy savings. Aluminum is highly preferable in manufacturing window frames for homes and offices due to its lightweight and anti-corrosion properties. In consumer electronics and household electronics, aluminum is used in tablets, laptops, smartphones, computer monitors, flat-screen TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and others. In aircraft components, aluminum is preferred due to its features including excellent ductility, high strength-to-weight ratio, and high resistance to corrosion.
